Organizational Structure

The Research and Planning Unit, headed by the Research Director under the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, is a service unit that assists Colegio De Dagupan faculty, staff, and students in their research endeavors. The office is responsible for coordinating and stimulating research and development activities in the college. It is working with the faculty and staff to increase external funding and to provide opportunities for professional growth that is critical to the overall health of the institution.

The Research Director and staff provide assistance with the processing of proposals, including administrative review and sign-off, and assist with the negotiation of external agreements in coordination with the Office of External Affairs. Assistance with the development of the proposal narrative and budget is also available. The Research Unit post-award responsibilities include institutional financial management of grants, contracts, and other externally funded agreements beginning immediately after the award.

All proposals which use the name and resources of Colegio De Dagupan, and which may result in an award to the College, must adhere to institution’s procedures for submitting a proposal, accepting an award, and administering the project.

Research Director
The Research Director administers and supervises all institution-based research projects. The Research Director initiates the formulation, revision and amendment of policies and guidelines for research in the college, and supervises their uniform implementation. He/She participates in the evaluation of research efforts by the institution’s researchers, verifies and recommends for approval to the President of the college all research proposals. He/She recommends funding and/or de-loading or both. The Research Director is responsible in the development of the strategic and operational plan of the Research Unit. He/She oversees the functions and activities of the personnel under the Unit.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, organize, coordinate, and implement comprehensive research projects relating to institutional effectiveness and decision-making.
  • Formulate long and short range research activities for the college.
  • Conceptualize and plan research and evaluation activities and studies for diverse clients.
  • Conduct or direct research projects subject to the same benefits and responsibilities as the other researchers.
  • Provide relevant administrative structure and support services, encourage faculty involvement in research activity, and pursue various sources for research funding (particularly extramural contracts and grants).
  • Submit to the Vice President for Academic Affairs periodic reports on research proposals, completed and on-going research and other pertinent reports.
  • Establish working relationships with private and public funding agencies, facilitates handling and negotiations with funding agencies), and protect the College’s interests in these agreements with external agencies.
  • Provide faculty and administration with data required for planning and policy development.
  • Coordinate with the Academic Deans in promoting and encouraging research among the faculty and students.
  • Process research projects which require financial assistance from the College and other funding agencies and make the corresponding recommendations for funding in accordance with the set policies and guidelines.
  • Assist the VP for Academic Affairs in evaluating research proposals submitted by the different researchers.
  • Represents the college’s research efforts at the local and national levels;
  • Supports faculty research through institutional awards in the form of faculty research grants;
  • Manages the operations of the Research Unit, including the allocation of space and resources;
  • Represents Colegio De Dagupan to businesses, industry, government agencies and officials, and other colleges and universities and research agencies;
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with business and industrial partners to enhance the research efforts of the college;
  • Maintain a running data bank and disseminate research of the College.
  • Perform other functions pertinent to this office as may be necessary.

Research Coordinator

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the VP for Academic Affairs and Research Director in evaluating research proposals submitted by the different researchers.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding statistical and demographic information.
  • Monitor and summarize research studies on educational issues such as class size, value added, teacher working conditions, etc. * Carries out complex analyses of institutional (e.g., student, faculty, staff, graduates, classes) and questionnaire data. Reviews and analyzes regional economic data/analyses/forecasts. Will collect, compile, and summarize data useful in the submission, managing and reporting of grant activities.
  • Coordinate with the Guidance Office in the administration of questionnaires (e.g.,Student Questionnaire, New Student Transition Questionnaire, Graduating Student Questionnaire, Alumni Questionnaire, Staff Questionnaire, various ad hoc questionnaires used for program evaluation etc.) for the Office and units within the College;
  • Serves as the college’s principal contact with external audiences in responding to requests for institutional research information. This includes responding to surveys, phone calls, and personal contacts.
  • Performs specific duties pertaining to research activities assigned by principal investigator or project leader, or commensurate with educational background and experience, may have independent or supervisory roles in research.
  • May participate in preparation of proposals to funding agencies.
  • Responsible for evaluation, selection and application of standard techniques of research.
  • Writes reports on data that has been collected, compiled and analyzed and provide technical and executive summaries of the data, and findings/results. Writing assignments will include assisting with grants; including writing proposals, analyzing data, and preparing reports.
  • May prepare or assist in writing manuscripts for publication in refereed journals or other technical publications.
  • Performs other duties as required.
